Position Purpose
The Vice President of Operations is an executive leader accountable for hospital operational performance, efficiency, and effectiveness. The role ensures exceptional, patient-centered care while delivering strong financial and operational results. In close partnership with clinical, physician, academic, and executive leaders, the VP translates strategy into daily execution, driving performance improvement, leadership alignment, and growth initiatives.
Aligned with Renown’s strategic plan, this position advances five imperatives: People-First culture; mission expansion; an integrated academic health system; essential and advanced care options; and access to high-quality, affordable care.
Provides operational oversight for key hospital services, including facilities, security, clinical engineering, environmental services, food, and nutrition. Ensures operational excellence, quality, safety, caregiver engagement, and fiscal stewardship. Leads business continuity and performance improvement through disciplined analysis, planning, and execution to support sustainable growth and hospital-wide performance.
Responsible for operational, financial, quality, and patient experience performance across assigned departments and divisions. Partners with administrative and physician leaders and medical directors to deliver high-quality, cost-effective care and services. Executes divisional and system strategic initiatives and collaborates effectively in a matrixed environment.
Nature and Scope
This role provides strategic and operational leadership across hospital operations, with accountability for translating organizational strategy into measurable results. The scope includes advancing quality, performance, financial stewardship, and people-centered leadership while strengthening partnerships with physicians, leaders, and the broader community to deliver high-quality, affordable care aligned with Renown’s not-for-profit mission.
Strategy
- Participates in hospital- and system-level strategic planning.
- Translate strategic priorities into executable operational plans with measurable outcomes.
- Evaluates and advances growth opportunities to ensure access to essential and advanced care.
- Leads implementation of strategic initiatives with urgency and accountability.

- Drives transformation of care delivery models and operational scalability.
Quality / Performance Improvement
- Leads performance improvement using continuous improvement methodologies.
- Establishes quality, safety, and patient experience as non-negotiable priorities.
- Drives performance across key metrics, including people first, quality and safety, length of stay, throughput, productivity, and cost per case.
- Apply data-driven decision-making to identify opportunities, remove barriers, and improve outcomes.
- Ensures systems, processes, and resources support consistent clinical and operational excellence.
- Partners with clinical, physician, and academic leaders to align operational goals with patient care priorities.
- Leads clinical and operational performance initiatives at hospital and departmental levels.
- Embeds a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and excellence.
Stakeholder Engagement (Physicians, Patients, Community, System)
- Builds strong partnerships with physicians, medical staff, and operational leaders.
- Ensures a high-quality, patient-centered experience through clinical and operational excellence.
- Engage patients, caregivers, and staff through rounding and direct feedback.
- Collaborates with system, regional, service line, and academic partners to implement best practices and achieve outcomes.
- Represents hospital operations in executive forums and committees that advance Renown’s mission.
- Strengthens internal and external relationships aligned with serving our community.
Collaboration
- Serves as a key member of the Executive Leadership Team
- Partners with the Regional COO, Physician Executives, and senior leaders across the health system, medical school, and joint ventures
- Collaborates across departments, service lines, and matrixed teams to optimize performance.
- Facilitate physician engagement in operational and performance improvement initiatives.
- Influences and builds consensus without direct authority across diverse teams.
- Ensures clear goals, accountability, and communication through effective governance, agendas, and forums.
- Organizes and aligns leadership efforts in collaboration with the executive team.

- Leads, mentors, and develops directors and operational leaders.

- Monitors financial and operational metrics to achieve margin, productivity, and growth targets.
- Ensure departments meet or exceed volume, revenue, and operational goals.

Experience: | Minimum of 10 years of progressive healthcare leadership experience level role with enterprise or hospital operational responsibility. Demonstrated success in hospital operations, preferably in a complex acute care environment. Experience leading multiple departments and large teams. Experience in performance improvement and driving results/outcomes. |
