Position Purpose
This position assists in complex Neurodiagnostic procedures of the central and peripheral nervous system for diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of neurological diseases following industry, federal, state, The Joint Commission (TJC), National Association of Epilepsy Centers (NAEC), and laboratory Accreditation from the American Board of Electroencephalographic &Evoked Potential Tech (ABRET), and the American Association of Neuromuscular & Electrodiagnostic Medicine (AANEM) requirements. The Electro Neurodiagnostic Technician I participates in the implementation of ASET- The Neurodiagnostic Society, American Clinical Neurophysiology Society (ACNS), and American Association of Neuromuscular &Electrodiagnostic Medicine (AANEM) standards of care, and physician orders to achieve the goal of effective utilization of services and improved patient outcomes. In conjunction with leadership, this position is responsible for the delivery of patient care through the proper execution of care standards, physician orders, and electro-neurodiagnostic practitioner skills.
Nature and Scope
This position is accountable and responsible for the assistance and performance of Neurodiagnostic examination under the supervision of the Neurodiagnostic Supervisor, Neurodiagnostic Technicians II and/or III, and/or Supervising physician. The Neurodiagnostic Technician is required to function as a role model, and professional resource for the Neurodiagnostic staff, physicians, and ancillary departments. This position is expected to integrate the electrodiagnostic needs of the patient with other care providers to achieve the desired results. The Neurodiagnostic Technician I is responsible for keeping current on technological advances within the electro-neurodiagnostic practice and is expected to continue to advance and become well-versed in appropriate clinical areas. The incumbent participates actively in the pursuit of becoming Registered and or certified in modalities within the Neurodiagnostic professional field.
This position demonstrates the appropriate knowledge of anatomic and physiological data through proper electrode application, preparation of a technical history to aid the interpreting physician, selection of test protocol, and clinical observation of test subjects. The Neurodiagnostic Technician reviews Neurodiagnostic studies for the integrity of electrodes and equipment, technique, patient safety, and completeness according to the ABRET, AANEM, ASET, and ACNS Standards and guidelines, as well as laboratory policies and procedures. Participates in educational sessions contributing technical and professional growth knowledge to students, allied health personnel, and physicians. Evaluates new instrumentation and biomedical equipment related to electro-neurodiagnostic technology.
The Neurodiagnostic Technician I is required to assist/perform Neurodiagnostic studies on the brain, auditory system, visual system, somatosensory system, and other central and peripheral structures in all the areas of the medical centers including, but not limited to, the department, at the bedside, the emergency room, epilepsy monitoring unit, ICU. The Neurodiagnostic Technician I will acquire the necessary skills to perform new Neuro-diagnostic studies as they are added to the service line. The Neurodiagnostic Technician I will be required to actively train in all test applications and acquire the skills necessary to work autonomously.
The Neurodiagnostic Technician I is responsible for learning/participating in all aspects of the technical production of all exams offered in the Neurodiagnostic product line. This includes but is not limited to Standard EEGs, LTM, CVEEG within the EMU, 24/48/ or 72-hour Ambulatory EEGs, Evoked Potentials, and NCS/EMGs. The incumbent is required to participate in maintaining all Neurodiagnostic exam records and files. It is expected that all staff maintains a healing, aesthetic environment.
The Neurodiagnostic Technician I has the authority to schedule patients according to the department policies, to evaluate if a patient can tolerate an examination, to determine what type of procedure to follow, and to suggest the best location for testing.
This position greets patients, physicians, and the General Public in a manner consistent with the Purpose Statement, Values, and Standards of Conduct of Renown Health. The Neurodiagnostic Technician I is challenged to learn to operate a variety of sophisticated electrophysiological Neurodiagnostic units and reading center devices.
The incumbent must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care based on the patient’s physical motor/sensory, psychosocial, and safety appropriate to patients ranging in age from newborn through geriatric and meet the standards of quality as measured by the unit/department competency with special population standards.
This Position does provide patient care.

Education: | Must have working-level knowledge of the English language, including reading, writing, and speaking English. Board Credential Eligible for (R. EEG T -or- R. NCS. T/ C. NCS T) and proof of completion of Electro-Neurodiagnostic Program or equivalent – 60 EEG ASET Credits required. |
Experience: | One year of Neurodiagnostic experience is required, two years of experience is preferred. |
License(s): | None |
Certification(s): | Current Basic Life Support (BLS) - American Heart Association CPR certification for health care providers is required at time of hire. |
Computer / Typing: | Must possess, or be able to obtain within 90 days, the computers skills necessary to complete online learning requirements for job-specific competencies, access online forms and policies, complete online benefits enrollment, etc. |
