Study Information

Summary / Purpose

To see if olpasiran reduces the risk of having a cardiovascular event such as heart attack, an urgent procedure to improve blood flow through the coronary (heart) vessel or death due to heart disease, and to understand if olpasiran causes any side effects and how well it is tolerated.

Who Can Participate

Eligibility Criteria:
  • Adults 50+ years of age
  • Lipoprotein(a) (Lp(a)) of ≥ 200 nmol/L
  • Four or more risk factors for atherosclerotic disease OR a history of atherosclerosis
  • No prior myocardial infarction, stroke, transient ischemic attack, or acute limb ischemia
  • No prior or planned arterial revascularization, severe heart failure, uncontrolled or recurrent ventricular tachycardia, uncontrolled hypertension, or major bleeding disorder
  • No severe renal dysfunction, history of decompensated liver cirrhosis, or diabetes mellitus (Type 1 or Type 2)

Participation in the study will include:

  • Subcutaneous injections (injection given just under the skin) of the study medication or placebo every 12 weeks
  • Electrocardiogram (ECG) to measure the electrical activity of your heart
  • Blood samples to monitor your health and response to the study drug
  • Questionnaires
