Position Purpose

This position is responsible for the following:

Design and implementation of enterprise-wide voice, video and data network solutions that align with the architecture and business models of Renown Health. This includes strategic planning, design, acquisition, installation/implementation, maintenance, and support for local and wide area network equipment.

Leads network planning, architecture design, and engineering for the department. Integrates and schematically depicts network architectures, topologies, hardware, software, transmission, signaling links and protocols into complete network configurations.

Actively builds and maintains relationships with user community and vendors in order to understand business needs and requirements related to the design of new networking technologies.

Perform, evaluate, document, and communicate technology evaluations and installations.

Oversees evaluations and installations performed by team members. Supports department staff in the analysis, solution, and documentation of network issues and problems. Analyzes and resolves errors escalated by less experienced team members.

Works with management to develop, communicate, implement, and maintain network design policies, standards, procedures, and capacity planning.

Serves as Network Architect lead on multifunctional project teams within IT and across lines of business as required to support business requirements. Supervises Network Engineers and vendors throughout life of project.

Coaches, mentors, and provides feedback to less experienced team members regarding departmental procedures, policies, and standards that pertain to the Network Engineering department.

Nature and Scope

This position will be responsible for a complex, wide-area network that is rapidly changing to support enterprise growth and development of new business opportunities. The technician is challenged with providing an environment that is reliable, flexible, and cost effective.

Design Network Infrastructure:

• Serves as primary technical liaison to architects, Renown Facilities Management/Construction Dept., contractors, various communication carriers, external data processing organizations, and equipment vendors in the design of data networks necessary to support any corporate initiative.

• Participates in committees to establish and define networking standards and designs for corporations. Publishes and maintains these standards.

• Assists in the identification, technical evaluation, testing, validation of new and existing products and emerging technologies to meet existing and expanding enterprise business requirements.

• Assists Renown Purchasing Dept. with the ordering of network equipment and the creation of vendor support/maintenance contracts as required.

Implement Network Infrastructure:

• Works with Renown Project Managers and other Renown employees to determine scope, tasks and estimate hours in the creation of the Project Implementation Plan.

• Performs tasks required to install network equipment by directly working with Renown Facilities Management/Construction Dept., contractors, vendors, and Business Group team members.

• Creates documentation establishing Install/Support procedures for new network equipment.

• Ensures that network implementation, updates and problem resolutions do not adversely impact network integrity by adhering to Change Management Policy.

Support Network Infrastructure:

• Actively monitors and tunes Enterprise-wide network traffic for optimal performance, ensuring the network system’s hardware and software integrity.

• Ensures that Technical Documentation Library and Hardware Inventory is kept current.

• Ensures that all network equipment maintenance releases are kept current.

• Provides technical assistance to Information Technology Staff and Business Group departments for the problem determination/resolution as situations are reported, identified, or discovered.

• Furnishes on-call network support by providing off-hour availability, as well as providing emergency coverage in the event of an unscheduled absence.

• Demonstrates proficiency in the use of network support tools.

• Actively participates in and supports special assignments and tasks as requested.

• Supports organizational financial objectives consistently.

• Identifies opportunities and alternatives that provide cost efficiencies.

Education:
Must have working-level knowledge of the English language, including reading, writing, and speaking English. BA or BS in Computer Sciences, related field or relevant experience may be substituted.
Experience:
Minimum seven years’ experience with wide and local area networks. Background in a Health Care System environment is preferred. Experience with network management tools and configuring network equipment.

Computer / Typing:
Must be proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, and Word and have the ability to use the computer to complete online learning requirements for job-specific competencies, access online forms and policies, complete online benefits enrollment, etc.
