Summary / Purpose

To find out if a text-based smoking cessation program helps rural cancer survivors quit smoking more effectively than a printed manual.

Study Type: Interventional
Accepts Healthy Volunteers: No

Who Can Participate

Eligibility Criteria:
  • Adults 18+ years of age
  • Diagnosed with cancer related to cigarette smoking
  • Currently smoking cigarettes
  • Live in a rural area

What's Involved

Participation in the study will include:
  • Random assignment to receive either a text-based smoking cessation program or a printed manual
  • Scheduled gradual reduction in smoking through text messages
  • Health education and questionnaires
  • Urine samples to check for tobacco use at 6 months
