Summary / Purpose

To find out if a text-based smoking cessation program helps rural cancer survivors quit smoking more effectively than a printed manual.

Study Type: Interventional

Accepts Healthy Volunteers: No

Who Can Participate

Eligibility Criteria:

Adults 18+ years of age
Diagnosed with cancer related to cigarette smoking
Currently smoking cigarettes
Live in a rural area

What's Involved

Participation in the study will include:

Random assignment to receive either a text-based smoking cessation program or a printed manual
Scheduled gradual reduction in smoking through text messages
Health education and questionnaires
Urine samples to check for tobacco use at 6 months
