Renown Expands Cancer Care Leadership with New Section Chief of Oncology

Dr. Harry Menon Named Oncology Section Chief

Renown Health is delighted to announce the promotion of Dr. Harry Menon to Section Chief of Oncology for the William N. Pennington Cancer Institute at Renown Health, effective immediately. Dr. Menon has been a dedicated Hematology/Oncology Physician since August 2021 and has also been serving as an Assistant Professor of Clinical Internal Medicine at the University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine. In this leadership role, Dr. Menon will oversee clinical programs, advance cancer research and innovation, and guide a multi-disciplinary team dedicated to providing exceptional care for patients and families across northern Nevada.

Dr. Menon brings a wealth of experience and expertise to his new role. He completed his fellowship in Hematology & Oncology at Pennsylvania State University Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, where he also served as Chief Fellow. Prior to that he completed a residency in Internal Medicine at Inspira Health Network in New Jersey, where he also served as Chief Resident. His academic study includes a D.O. from Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine, an M.P.H. from Boston University with a concentration in Epidemiology, Health Policy & Management, and a B.S. from Pennsylvania State University in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology.

Dr. Menon has made significant contributions to the field through his research and publications. He has authored multiple peer-reviewed articles on topics including cancer therapy, COVID-19 impact on patients with cancer, and biomarkers in cancer. His research interests include ctDNA assays, electronic patient-reported outcomes development and public health projects addressing cancer in unhoused populations. His work has been published in prestigious journals such as JAMA Network Open and Annals of Oncology. He has also presented at numerous conferences, including the ASCO Annual Meeting and the American Society of Hematology Annual Meeting. Dr. Menon is board-certified in Hematology, Medical Oncology and Internal Medicine.

Expanding Cancer Care and Research in Nevada

As Section Chief, Dr. Menon will collaborate with colleagues across Renown Heath and the University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine to expand access to advanced cancer therapies, clinical trials, and supportive care service, ensuring that patients receive the highest-quality care close to home.

Renown Crisis Care Center Reopens to Provide Short-Term Stabilization and Care for Nevadans in Behavioral Health Crisis

Renown Health, in collaboration with the Nevada Division of Public and Behavioral Health, proudly announces the reopening of the Crisis Care Center at 480 Galletti Way in Sparks, located on the Northern Nevada Adult Mental Health Services (former Dini Townsend) campus. The center began welcoming patients today, Tuesday, Nov. 11, offering 24/7 short-term behavioral health crisis intervention and stabilization services for individuals in need of immediate care. The Crisis Care Center had been closed since April, when the HHS ARPA funds which helped support the Center, were terminated by the federal government. “We are committed to supporting the mental health and well-being of our community and are deeply grateful to our local and state partners for stepping in to secure funding for the Crisis Care Center,” said Brian Erling, MD, MBA, President and CEO, Renown Health. “It is so important that people, and families, experiencing a mental health emergency have an environment where they are valued, and can receive the care and support they need.
