Renown Transfer Center

Dedicated Transfer Coordination for Referring Providers

Contact our 24/7 RN Support:
📲: 775-982-2210
Fax: 775-982-4969

Our Transfer Center is staffed around the clock by experienced registered nurses who coordinate acute inter-facility transfers and direct admissions to Renown.

Provider-to-Provider Communication Only

This line is for healthcare providers and referring facilities. We do not coordinate transfers directly with patients or family members.

What We Do

Our RN transfer specialists:

  • Serve as the single point of contact for transfer requests
  • Triage and prioritize based on clinical urgency
  • Facilitate physician-to-physician communication
  • Coordinate specialty review, imaging review, and clinical documentation needs
  • Assess resource availability and appropriate receiving services
  • Coordinate bed placement and internal care teams

All transfer requests are evaluated for clinical needs and available capacity.

What to Have When You Call

Please have the following information ready:

  • Patient’s name and date of birth
  • Diagnosis or clinical condition
  • Contact number for requesting provider
  • Sending facility/unit name and contact number
  • Reason for transfer (e.g., higher level of care, service unavailable at sending facility)

If available at the time of call, please also send:

  • Imaging from the current stay
  • Relevant clinical documentation
  • Facesheet

After Acceptance

Once the patient is accepted:

  • Notify the Transfer Center when transport departs and provide estimated time of arrival (ETA).
  • Inform us of any significant changes in the patient’s clinical condition prior to arrival.

This ensures receiving teams are prepared and resources are in place.

Transfer-Back Agreement

In certain situations, we may request a transfer-back agreement with the referring facility. This identifies an accepting provider and facility for the patient’s return after tertiary or specialty care at Renown is complete and supports continuity of care in the patient’s home community.

Regional Referral Partner

Renown serves as a regional referral center for northern Nevada and surrounding rural communities, providing specialty and higher-acuity services including:

  • Level II trauma care
  • Advanced critical care
  • Pediatric specialty services
  • Neurosciences
  • Cardiovascular sciences
  • ECMO (adult only)
ER Wait Times

How are wait times calculated?

Our estimated ER wait times reflect the average time from check-in to being seen by a medical professional during triage, where patients are prioritized based on the severity of their condition.
