Movement Disorders Program The Movement Disorders Program evaluates, diagnoses, and treats all movement disorders including: Tremors Parkinson’s disease Dystonia Restless leg syndrome Huntington’s disease or chorea Dr. Christopher Way is a movement disorders specialist that performs deep brain stimulation programming for Parkinson’s disease and essential tremor and performs botulinum toxin injections for dystonia. Dr. Way is the principal investigator of the PROSEEK study at Renown. PROSEEK is a drug trial that is studying a c-Abl inhibitor developed by SUN pharmaceuticals that has shown promise in slowing the progression of Parkinson’s disease. To be a candidate for the study, one must fulfill at least the following criteria: Age > 50 years Diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease within the last 3 years Not on medication for treatment of Parkinson’s disease aside from monoamine oxidase B (MAOB) inhibitors. According to the American Heart Association, heart disease kills more women than all forms of cancer combined and yet only 44% of women recognize that cardiovascular disease is their greatest health threat. Recognizing the urgent need for women's cardiac care, Renown Health established the Helaine Greenberg Women's Heart Center, the first of its kind in Nevada.

Renown Health is the only pediatric cancer and hematology program in northern Nevada. Nevada State Requirements Nevada state law requires those children less than 6 years of age and weighing 60 pounds or less to be secured in an appropriate child restraint system while being transported in a motor vehicle.

Understanding the critical need for prompt, exceptional care, the hospital ensures swift attention post-check-in. If you’re heading to the Renown Children’s Emergency Room, enter 1155 Mill St, Reno, NV, in your navigation system. For more than 25 years, Children’s Heart Center Nevada* and Renown Children’s Hospital have worked closely to coordinate exceptional congenital cardiac care for our community on an inpatient and outpatient basis. We primarily service the greater Reno and Carson City area as well as parts of Northeastern California. We had approximately 8,000 patient contacts in 2023. We provide specialty care most commonly to newborns, infants and children. Early detection of congenital heart disease is critical to achieving better outcomes. Children’s Heart Center Nevada’s unique Fetal Cardiology Program is one of the largest in the nation. Our physicians work closely with area perinatologists to diagnosis issues before birth. This allows better preparation for parents and physicians. Our fetal cardiology program is one of only five in the United States to receive Fetal Echocardiography Accreditation by the American Institute of Ultrasound Medicine. Our center has achieved a 90% fetal detection rate of complex congenital heart disease. This is the highest in the country and three times the national average. Our physicians are skilled in making a structural and functional assessment of the heart and related anatomy. Tests commonly performed include, but are not limited to, electrocardiograms, echocardiograms, treadmill stress testing and event monitoring. For those patients who may need heart surgery or interventional care, our pediatric cardiologists work closely with pediatric cardiothoracic surgeons and interventionalists to determine the appropriate treatment and service center best suited for patients and their families. We provide follow-up care for patients requiring out of area services locally.
