Quality Care

Providing Quality Care

Delivering quality care is the foundation of everything we do. It’s why we exist and our commitment to patients and their family members.

What Does Quality Care Mean?

Quality care provides safe, accessible, evidence-based, patient-centered care while focusing on continuous improvement for the best outcomes for our patients and community.

Building upon the foundation of the Triple Aim – a nationally recognized approach to improving patient care – our quality processes focuses on clinical excellence, patient safety, care coordination and regulatory compliance.

Information About Our Performance

There are many publicly available sources of healthcare data that you can view online through various reporting entities. Esto incluye lo siguiente:

HealthInsight

How We Continuously Improve

One quality initiative at Renown is Transformational Healthcare—an approach to our daily work based on Toyota manufacturing principles that put the patient at the center of care and the team members at the center of the improvement process. It emphasizes the patient perspective and eliminates waste and inefficiencies by engaging staff and physicians in continuous improvement. Virginia Mason Medical Center and many others prescribe this same approach. Over the past decade, many leading healthcare institutions across the nation have adopted these principles with great success.

Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services Quality Scores

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) created the Five-Star Quality Rating System to help consumers, their families and caregivers evaluate and compare healthcare options. The rating system measures a hospital’s performance when treating a variety of common conditions like heart attacks or pneumonia. The overall rating shows how well each hospital performed, on average, compared to other hospitals in the U.S.

Patient Involvement is Key

You are an integral part of our efforts to provide quality care. Here are a few tips when visiting your doctor or hospital:

Speak Up

Ask your care team about medications, treatments and procedures. No concern is too small. Here are 10 questions to ask your doctor provided by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality:

  • What is the test for?
  • How many times have you done this procedure?
  • When will I get the results?
  • Why do I need this treatment?
  • Are there any alternatives?
  • What are the possible complications?
  • Which hospital is best for my needs?
  • How do you spell the name of that drug?
  • Are there any side effects?
  • Will this interact with other medicines I'm taking?

Prepare for Your Appointment

  • Ask someone to go to your appointment with you to help you understand and remember answers to your questions.
  • Create a health history that includes your current conditions and past surgeries or illnesses. Bring it to your appointment.
  • Know your family’s health history, such as your parents’ health conditions.
  • Bring all your medicines with you.

Transparency and Communication with Your Care Team

  • It’s critically important for patients to speak openly about their health history. This discussion helps your care provider to diagnose you accurately.
  • Patients have the right to be informed about the benefits and risks of any treatment.
