Director of HIM

Position Purpose

This position is responsible for directing Health Information Management for all Renown Health is responsible for coordinating health information management (HIM) services across the multi-facility, integrated health network (IHN), establishing global policy/procedure, and providing direct oversight for all Health Information Management functions across the integrated health network.

Directs the health information management functions of all facilities in the healthcare network. Develops and deploys health information management systems as part of the integrated health network's overall information plan, including the EMR.Monitors health information management systems and sets the integrated health network's standards for data quality and ethical practice.Develops health information management policies and procedures on release of information, confidentiality, information security, information storage and retrieval, and record retention.Documents and enforces the integrated health network's health information management policies and procedures. Provides education and training to the integrated health network's employees in areas relevant to health information management policies and procedures. Working together with all users of the medical record, the incumbent will be instrumental in assuring the continued development of a strategy that supports advancement of the electronic record (EMR). The application of industry standards is essential and the understanding of and commitment to a functionally rich EMR will be a priority of the role. Forecasts the integrated health network's future technical and information needs. Supports and facilitates clinical, administrative, and external data use functions; monitors local, national, and international trends in healthcare delivery.Monitors changes in legislation and accreditation standards that affect health information management.Serves as an internal consultant on HIM issues including release of information, confidentiality, information security, information storage and retrieval, and record retention, as well as authorship and authentication of health record documentation, standardization of medical vocabularies, and use of classifications systems. The incumbent will assume a leadership role in the implementation of ICD-10 for the integrated health network.

Demonstrates project planning and implementation skills; utilizes action plan templates to document progress towards goals.

Minimum Qualifications:Requirements - Required and/or Preferred

Education:

Must have working-level knowledge of the English language, including reading, writing and speaking English. Bachelor's degree in Health Information or other Health Science related degree; masters preferred.

Experience:

Ten (10) years of health information management experience in a large integrated healthcare delivery system required.Experience and knowledge of information systems and healthcare applications implementation is ideal.Additionally, experience in marketing, planning or business development preferred.Incumbent will demonstrate a high level of skill in developing and delivering public presentations.

Certification as a Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) required.

Computer / Typing:

Must be proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel and Word and have the ability to use the computer to complete online learning requirements for job-specific competencies, access online forms and policies, complete online benefits enrollment, etc.Demonstrates ability and willingness to become system literate in Renown's chosen EMR system.
