Position Purpose | |
The Trauma Performance Improvement Nurse works in collaboration with trauma program leadership to improve the quality of trauma care encompassing all departments and disciplines of the hospital that participate in the care of injured patients.This position provides coordination and facilitation of performance improvement data collection, analysis, trending, and benchmarking of data and outcomes based upon the American College of Surgeons recommendations for quality as it relates to maintaining trauma center verification.It also collaborates with trauma program leadership to ensure compliance with trauma standards and guidelines in accordance with current Nevada Administrative Code and the American College of Surgeons Trauma Quality Improvement Program. Nature and Scope: | |
This position uses analytical and clinical nursing expertise to facilitate efficient, effective, quality care for the trauma population across the continuum. It collaborates with the entire multi-disciplinary team to provide case management for trauma patients, maximize patient outcomes, and enhance customer satisfaction.This role requires additional responsibilities related to promotion of trauma standards of care according to nationally accepted American College of Surgeon's (ACS) guidelines and assists in continual ACS verification readiness as directed by the trauma program leadership. The incumbent concurrently tracks, trends, and reports on performance improvement indicators and audit filters.They are responsible for review and preparation of select cases for Morbidity and Mortality conference review. The incumbent compiles statistics, handles routine requests, assists researchers in gathering information for trauma related studies, and provides guidance in the appropriate use of registry data.Complications, audit filters, and physician related issues are among the performance improvement indicators monitored and reported to the Trauma Coordinator and Trauma Medical Director.The incumbent prepares reports to meet the trauma center and state quality management requirements; these include trauma research, epidemiologic, and injury prevention activities based on performance improvement findings.They are instrumental in following through with actionable items. This position is responsible for obtaining, abstracting, correcting, and entering patient data both concurrently and retrospectively on patients who meet the criteria for trauma as established by the State of Nevada Administrative Code and Renown Regional Medical Center.The incumbent uses clinical judgment to analyze and interpret all available patient data to determine all appropriate trauma coding classifications and performance improvement indicators. This position acts as a resource to the Trauma Coordinator, Trauma Medical Director, trauma surgeons, and hospital administration for analyzing and reporting registry data and performance improvement trends. In consultation with the Trauma Coordinator, the incumbent is responsible for submitting data to the State of Nevada, the Trauma Quality Improvement Program (TQIP), and the National Trauma Data bank according to specified criteria and time frames. Although TNCC is not a minimum requirement for this position, it is required to effectively perform the functions of this position.All candidates must have the ability to obtain and maintain TNCC certification within one year of hire and thereafter.It is preferred TNCC instructor status is obtained. Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Power Point, the registry report writer, and the ability to create complex charts, graphs, matrixes, and tables is required.In addition, excellent communication skills, the ability to be flexible and function in a fast-changing environment and work under stress along with ability to maintain strict confidentiality is essential. Minimum Qualifications:Requirements - Required and/or Preferred | |
Education: | Must have working-level knowledge of the English language, including reading, writing and speaking English.Bachelor Degree in Nursing preferred or equivalent experience. |
Experience: | Registered Nurse with two years experience in an ACS verified Level I or II trauma center ICU or ED experience preferred. |
License(s): | Ability to obtain and maintain a State of Nevada Registered Nurse license. |
Certification(s): | BLS Required. CSTR (Certified Specialist in Trauma Registries) preferred.CSTR required within 36 months of hire. |
Computer / Typing: | Must be proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel and Word and have the ability to use the computer to complete online learning requirements for job-specific competencies, access online forms and policies, complete online benefits enrollment, etc. |
