Renown Health Employees at the Reno Pride Parade

Leading With a People First Employee Experience

We believe that our employees are the heart of our health system. Being a “People First” organization means that our success relies on our ability to listen to and address the needs of our team members. We uphold these values by prioritizing compassion and collaboration. By fostering positive working relationships, we enhance performance and make Renown a great place to work for everyone. Through this vision, we seek to continue to make a meaningful impact and serve our community as we remain steadfast in our commitment to saving lives, nurturing minds and caring for all people.

Creating a Positive Work Culture

When we say, “we care for you,” we not only mean we care for our patients – we also care for our employees and their livelihoods and foster an inclusive and connected People First culture for all our in-person and remote employees. Renown has a dedicated group called the Culture Crew, which consists of employees from various departments within the health system who are passionate about nurturing a culture of kindness. This team organizes cultural initiatives, awareness campaigns and appreciation events to recognize the hard work of our teams. Additionally, Renown hosts award ceremonies and banquets, team pride days, monthly forums with leadership, encourages participation in community events and many other engaging activities.

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Pledges

Fighting the good fight to ensure all who walk through our doors are treated equally is not only our mission but also our duty. We are proud to create an inclusive and welcoming environment for all of our employees and patients.

This includes:

  • Celebrating the diverse heritages of our team members through recognition and events
  • Encouraging employee involvement in community events celebrating diversity
  • Offering all gender restrooms
  • Requiring annual training for all employees in LGBTQ Patient-Centered Care
  • Extending free HEI training options available through National LGBTQIA+ Health Education Center and The CAL.

Employee Stories

Department Spotlight: Maternal Child Education

Welcoming a new family member into the world can be an exciting time for expectant parents. As many parents can attest, there is no feeling like holding your baby for the first time. That excitement, however, is often matched with nerves, especially for first time parents who have many questions about what they are about to experience. How do I prepare for birth and postpartum? Can I breastfeed? How do I set my child up for success in their first year? What safety techniques do I need to understand? The list of questions goes on... ...and the Maternal Child Education (MCE) department at Renown Health is here to answer them and set parents up for success with their new bundle of joy

Department Spotlight: Intermediate Care Unit

Remember the 2000s era iPhone commercial with the “There’s an App for That” tagline? Let’s put a healthcare spin on that – at Renown Health, there’s a unit for that. Emergency, labor and delivery, pediatric acute care, trauma, surgery, the list goes on. When it comes to critical care, your mind probably jumps to either the intensive care unit (ICU), emergency room (ER) or a unit that provides care for a more standard hospitalization. But what about the patients who fall in between those two levels of care? Yep, there’s a unit for that at Renown, too. It’s called the Intermediate Care Unit (IMCU), located on the sixth floor of the Tahoe Tower (T6) at Renown Regional Medical Center, boasting a dedicated team of nurses, physicians, critical care technicians and more. The IMCU cares for patients who still need close monitoring and specialized care but don't need an ICU stay. Everyone in this department shares common missions: catch early signs of change, intervene swiftly and help patients progress to a lower level of care – and eventually, back home.

ER Wait Times

How are wait times calculated?

Our estimated ER wait times reflect the average time from check-in to being seen by a medical professional during triage, where patients are prioritized based on the severity of their condition.
