Renown Health has partnered with Truckee Meadows Community College (TMCC) to fully fund a Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) Apprentice program, enabling students to attend school and work as a CNA Apprentice while being paid. Students shadow, precept, and complete their clinical hours in a hospital setting, receiving both the education and experience necessary to become a successful health care professional. Upon completion of the program, participants are eligible to obtain their CNA license and transfer directly into a Full-Time – Night shift CNA position at Renown Health.
About the Program
- Program Length: 4 Months total (includes 9 weeks of class/lab time plus clinical time at Renown Health)
- Program Location: Reno, NV – Truckee Meadows Community College & Renown Health
- Pay Rate: $18.00/hour (participants are paid for classroom, clinical hours, as well as work time)
- Schedule: This is a full-time position (36-40 hours per week), which includes classroom instruction (Tuesday/Thursday 9:00am-4:30pm), clinical hours, work time, etc. During the duration of the program, schedules will be on day shift with occasional evenings. Participants must have open/flexible schedules to accommodate both school and work. Upon completion of the program, positive feedback from unit, and obtaining your CNA license, Renown Health would offer a Full-Time Night shift position with the unit you completed the apprenticeship with.
- Program Overview: Participants have class two days per week through TMCC, where they learn theory and have lab time. About halfway into the class, students start clinical rotations on Telemetry, Medical/Surgical, and other units at Renown. In addition to classroom, lab, and clinical time, they also work in various capacities (Patient Safety Assistant, Unit Clerk, etc.) until they gain the CNA skills necessary to begin working on the units.
- Current Employees: Current Renown Health employees selected to participate in the program will transfer out of their current role and into the CNA Apprentice role.

There are no prerequisites/requirements to apply for this apprenticeship. However, the program is competitive, and we require full-time availability during the apprenticeship period. Additionally, candidates must be available to work night shifts upon successful completion of the program.
We do not encourage students to take additional classes outside of the program while enrolled. The program is designed to be rigorous and time-intensive, and taking on extra coursework may negatively impact your performance and overall experience.
To be considered for the CNA Apprenticeship Program, availability for the full-time night shift position is a mandatory requirement. Applicants must be able to commit to working night hours as part of their training and employment. This ensures alignment with program expectations and the staffing needs. That said, there may be opportunities to transition to a day shift in the future as positions become available. You do not need to apply through TMCC at this time; just submit your application directly to us. We will guide you through the enrollment process with TMCC once you are selected for the apprenticeship.
The program allows only one absence. Missing more than one may result in dismissal from the program and could also affect your employment status.
Tuition, books, and initial tests are covered by Renown Health. However, costs for fingerprints, the Nevada State Board application, and any test retakes will need to be paid by the student.
