Parents-to-be will learn how to care for their newborn, including bathing, diapering, cord care, signs of illness, nutrition, feeding, infant safety, understanding newborn behavior along with growth and development. This informative class outlines ways grandparents can offer support and assistance to a new family while discussing current birth practices and infant care trends. Grandparents will learn about newborn care, safe sleep environments, breastfeeding, car seats, product safety, how to help new parents and more. This support group provides support, education, networking, and resource materials to caregivers coping with a loved one diagnosed with cancer. In effort to provide the most supportive atmosphere for those caring for loved one dealing with cancer, this group is for current cancer caregivers only. If you have lost a loved one to cancer, there are these groups available for support: Grief Support Groups in Reno If you have cancer, Renown offers the following support groups: Cancer Support Group Men’s Prostate Cancer Support Group Newly Diagnosed Breast Cancer Orientation Class Lymphedema Education & Risk Reduction Class * Virtual attendance is available. The American Heart Association Family & Friends “Infant CPR and Choking” (birth to one year) course is for those who want to learn infant CPR but do NOT need a course completion card in CPR for their job. This course is ideal for schools and students, new parents, grandparents, babysitters and others interested in learning how to save a life. Skills are taught in a dynamic group environment using the AHA’s research-proven “practice-while-watching” technique, which provides students with the most hands-on CPR practice time possible. This 2-hour class helps prepare mom and partner on what to expect after birth and the weeks to follow, and is offered every other month and is open to mothers and their partners. Class fee includes partner. In this class you will learn about breastfeeding your baby using recommendations from health organizations across the globe. We recommend that all first-time parents take this in-depth class to help mothers get off to a better start with breastfeeding. Topics include the benefits of breastfeeding, breast anatomy, feeding cues, establishing a good latch, nursing positions, ways for partners to support and be involved in breastfeeding, breast pumping and breast milk storage, breastfeeding tips and available breastfeeding supplies and resources. It also touches on how to know if your baby is getting enough milk and when and where to get help if needed. Class instructor is an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant. This group is for all patients facing cancer. The meeting enables participants to share experiences and express feelings and concerns. All cancer patients, family members, survivors, and caregivers are welcome to attend. Meets weekly on Thursday from 11:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. in person and virtually.
