Surgical Pre-Admit Assistant

Position Purpose:

Under the direction of surgical services leadership, the Surgical Pre-Admission Assistant reviews patient information for accuracy prior to routing documents to appropriate queues for scheduling or day of surgery.  If deficiencies are found, the Surgical Pre-Admission Assistant shall contact the physician offices to obtain necessary documents. The Surgical Pre-Admission Assistant communicates with Registered Nurses, Patient Access Representatives and physician offices.  

 

Nature and Scope:

 

The incumbent will perform an array of clerical duties to include but not limited to: electronic fax management, chart management, order entry, inputting H&P information in to EPIC correctly, scanning, faxing and telephone responsibilities. 

 

The incumbent will act as a liaison between physician offices to obtain necessary documentation to schedule a procedure for surgery scheduling or for scheduled procedures for pre-admit appointment.  

 

The incumbent must have knowledge in medical terminology, laboratory testing and must be able to understand basic anatomy and physiology as well as basic pharmacology.  This position requires knowledge of surgical procedure terminology. 

 

This position takes initiative to prioritize workload, ensuring that patient charts are analyzed for completeness prior to day of surgery.

Other related duties, flexible hours, and overtime may be required.

Minimum Qualifications:  Requirements - Required and/or Preferred

Education:

Must have working-level knowledge of the English language, including reading, writing and speaking English. High School Diploma or equivalent required. 

Experience:

Three-years clinical experience preferred as Certified Nurse Assistant or Certified Medical Assistant. Ability to demonstrate knowledge of surgical procedures and related medical terminology.

Computer / Typing:

Must possess, or be able to obtain within 90 days, the computers skills necessary to complete online learning requirements for job-specific competencies, access online forms and policies, complete online benefits enrollment, etc.
