Position Purpose
This position serves as the patient’s primary contact for patient reimbursement issues in accordance with established policies. The incumbent provides information regarding treatment costs, out-of-pocket patient responsibility, hospital payment requirements, alternative financing and charity care programs. The incumbent must demonstrate knowledge and skill to determine the eligibility of patients for specific programs. The incumbent is responsible to act as liaison between the patient, family, county, and governmental agencies. The position expedites and provides access to the hospital through the gathering of demographic, clinical, financial, and statistical information from patients and their families. This position is to ensure that the company will be reimbursed for services by verifying and documenting insurance eligibility, and benefit coverage using all available technology i.e. Internet/Intranet.
This position serves as an agent of Renown Health and the department in which the employee serves when collecting payments, initiating financial assistance and educating the public on the billing policies and procedures of the company and avenues of financial assistance.
This position must keep abreast of all changes involving governmental and community agencies, insurance coverage, grants specific to the patient and other options/resources available.
Nature and Scope
The major challenge to this position is to professionally and diplomatically work with and communicate positively with patients of all ages, their families and physicians regarding financial matters and ensures system documentation reflects the correct billing information. i.e., demographic, employer, insurance and that the patient is informed about and understands their financial responsibility.
This position is responsible for providing information to the patients about the appropriate government agencies or other resources that may provide the financially restricted patients with assistance based on the patient’s qualifications.
This position must be able to work cooperatively and professionally with hospital staff, community/outside agencies, and physician offices. Must be able to make independent decisions except in matters involving non-routine problems, requests for sick leave, vacation time, overtime and assignments for duty.
This position is expected to be a team player and take the initiative in all areas of the Institute for Cancer and the appropriate Revenue Cycle team members. This position demonstrates high standards of courtesy, performance, documentation, diplomacy and respect for confidentiality.
This position does not provide patient care.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: | Must have working-level knowledge of the English language, including reading, writing, and speaking English. Associate degree or bachelor’s degree preferred. Bilingual (Spanish) preferred. |
Experience: | Requires 24 months of patient accounting, medical billing, general medical office or medical claims processing experience. In addition, six months of credit, insurance, governmental program experience and/or direct customer service experience is required. Experience with MS Windows NT or MS Windows 2000, MS Office, SMS Invision, Internet and SMS IMS Document Imaging preferred. |
License(s): | None |
Certification(s): | Nevada Medicaid Hospital Presumptive Eligibility (HPE) Certification required within 12 months of hire. Notary Public Certification preferred. |
Computer / Typing: | Must possess, or be able to obtain within 90 days, the computers skills necessary to complete online learning requirements for job-specific competencies, access online forms and policies, complete online benefits enrollment, etc. Requires the ability to type 35 to 45 words per minute. |
